Vancouver: The Golden City of the West

All but one of the photographs in this souvenir book were taken by Leonard Frank, one of Vancouver's leading photographers in the early-twentieth century. Frank's photograph of the newly-constructed Burrard Bridge is particularly noteworthy: Frank matches the bridge's modern style with a modern photograph emphasizing the strong lines of the steel structure. The way the view is framed recalls the "new vision" of Modernist photographers who challenged traditional perspectives.
