About
Re-launched in 2025, when Eleanor Young—a graduate student at the School of Library and Information Studies (SLIS) and a part-time employee at University of Alberta's Bruce Peel Special Collections—worked with Linda Quirk and Justin Hanisch to recreate one of the Peel library's archived digital exhibitions with updated content. Significant preliminary work for this project was undertaken in 2020 by Shannen Shott, then a SLIS student and a part-time employee at the Peel library.
The archived exhibition was originally created in 2011 after University of Alberta student Justin Hanisch won the Canadian National Book Collecting Contest sponsored by The Bibliographical Society of Canada, the W.A. Deacon Literary Foundation, and the Alcuin Society. Launched in 2011, the original exhibition lost much of its functionality a few years later when the software with which it was created was no longer supported, and the exhibition content was archived.
Unlike most of the Peel library’s exhibitions, this one features a private collection so the materials shown here are not available for viewing in the library. However, the Peel library houses a large collection of books on the topic–the Bruce P. Dancik Collection of Angling Books–that can be viewed in Peel’s reading rooms by appointment. The Dancik Collection was celebrated in a multi-award-winning exhibition curated by Justin Hanish (A Contemplative Angler, 2018-2019) and an award-winning short film.
