    Description

    Miriam Green Ellis in a canoe crossing the Salt River in the Northwest Territories. This makeshift 'ferry' was pressed into service when fording the river by horse proved risky due to the soft mud of the bank. A coloured version of this image appears among Miriam Green Ellis' magic lantern slides.
