Miriam Green Ellis' Magic Lantern Slides
The calotype technique of painting and glazing paper-based photographs enjoyed a limited popularity in the 1920s. The coloured slides at times enhance the beauty of the black-and-white original, as in the navigation bar for this site picturing MGE in a field of rye at Mr. Card’s farm at Fort Smith, and at others over-colour and exaggerate features of the original. The fragility of the slides means that quite a few are cracked; yet in the view of the research team, the damaged slides convey their own particular beauty.
