Souvenir Cards, 1900-1969

Souvenir Cards

Souvenir cards and postcards—like those shown here—point towards the portability and versatility of photographs, and the ease with which they could be inserted into different contexts. Cards like these could have been arranged in albums, sent through the mail, or simply collected as personal mementoes. One unique example that diverges from the others is the set of playing cards that feature photographic images from the White Pass and Yukon Route. This example not only shows how easy it is to insert a souvenir card into different contexts, but also how easy it can be to print a photographic image onto any kind of card.
